COPPERAS COVE – Four Copperas Cove ISD campuses received honors from the Cen-Tex Sustainable Communities Partnership.
S.C. Lee Jr. High, Fairview/Jewell Elementary, Martin Walker Elementary and Hettie Halstead Elementary Schools were recently honored for their efforts in recycling and other sustainability measures.
Martin Walker Elementary was named the 2023-24 Youth Environmental Ambassador! Greater Fort Cavazos Recycle Bowl Award winner in the Central Texas Region.
Additionally, nine students from the campus were selected as Poster Contest award winners:

Marissa Williams, 4th grade
Abilgail Gardner, 5th grade
Zanniza Monterroso, 5th grade

Hettie Halstead Elementary was named the winner of the 2023-24 Youth Environmental Ambassador! Sustained Excellence Award winner for the Central Texas Region.
Fairview/Jewell Elementary School was named the 2023-24 Youth Environmental Ambassador! Pull Together to Make a Difference Award winner for the Central Texas Region. This challenge collects the pull-tabs from aluminum cans to recycle them.
S.C. Lee Jr. High received the 2023-24 Youth Environmental Ambassador! School Beautification Award for the Central Texas Region. Through the Outdoor Adventure program, students built a garden outside the campus with the help of select staff.
All four campuses received an award from the program, as well as Special Congressional Recognition from Rep. John Carter’s office.
The Cen-Tex Sustainable Communities Partnership in collaboration with Fort Cavazos Recycle and Child & Youth Services (CYS) School Liaison Office Adopt-A-School Program are kicking off the school year with the Youth Environmental Ambassadors! (YEA!) program to empower youth to make a meaningful difference within their school’s footprint and community and lead in sustainability efforts in the Central Texas region. Schools are challenged to participate in one or more of the initiatives.
