COPPERAS COVE – Students at Copperas Cove High School will have more classes to choose from during their academic careers.
Thursday, the Copperas Cove ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to add 15 new course options for CCHS students in various fields, including technology, healthcare and career development.
“We are very excited to expand the course offerings at Copperas Cove High School,” CCHS principal Dr. Jimmy Shuck said. “The addition of these classes will provide our students with even more opportunities to explore and excel in diverse fields.”
The new courses have options for students at each grade level on the campus and will provide either 1.0 or 2.0 credits toward graduating.
“Students have the opportunity to reach advanced-level CTE courses to increase the rigor of their learning and complete a CTE program of study for an endorsement or earn recognized industry certifications,” said Sandra Perry, Career & Technical Education coordinator. “The addition of new CTE courses for the 2024-25 school year will allow us to restructure some of our current programs while keeping our programs relevant to industry standards.”
Prior to submitting these courses to the board for approval, the CCHS administration surveyed the students to gauge interest levels. Forensic Psychology received the most student requests on the survey.
“As we prepare our students for success in the ever-evolving professional landscape, we believe that offering a varied selection of courses is critical,” Shuck said. “These courses are designed to equip students with practical skills, real-world experience and a solid foundation for their future careers. We are committed to fostering a learning environment that promotes innovation, critical thinking and career readiness.”
