COPPERAS COVE – Monday, in a special meeting, the Copperas Cove ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved an out-of-state trip request for two students to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, where they were selected for the National FFA Band.

It then took the first steps in finding its new Superintendent of Schools.

Trustees unanimously approved the acceptance of current superintendent Dr. Joe Burns’ retirement resignation, effective Dec. 31st, while also unanimously approving board president Joan Manning to enter into a Voluntary Retirement Agreement with Dr. Burns.

Following those procedures, trustees received a presentation from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services team, led by multiple retired superintendents and reviewed the contract thoroughly, prior to unanimous approval of the contract.

As part of TASB’s services, the group will not only recruit qualified candidates, but help the district and trustees seek community input, advertise the opening with groups like the Texas Association of School Administrators, and assist CCISD trustees in scheduling interviews with candidates.

“After thorough consideration, we are happy to have such a long-standing, dedicated search team to help our efforts in finding the best superintendent candidate for Copperas Cove ISD,” said Joan Manning, president of the CCISD Board of Trustees. “Their ideas for seeking community involvement and staff input will help us stay on the right track. We’ve spoken with other districts regarding other search firms, and TASB Executive Search Services came the most highly-recommended.”

The board will next meet with TASB Executive Search Services to finalize an estimated timeline for the superintendent search toward the end of September.
